Luther College English 263 Students
In Frankenstein’s Footsteps: The Keats-Shelley Circle in London, Geneva, and Italy

DRC Sponsor: John Moeller

Mary Shelley composed her famous novel Frankenstein (1818) amid a whirlwind of personal turmoil, important friendships, and significant travel. The Luther College students engaged in the course In Frankenstein’s Footsteps: The Keats-Shelley Circle in London, Geneva, and Italy, having recently returned from their J-Term travel to Europe, will share with our members their experiences in retracing the path of Mary Shelley's  journeys from childhood to Frankenstein. They visited sites associated with her and her circle—including John Keats, Percy Shelley, and Lord Byron—in London, Geneva, Venice, Florence, and Rome and investigated the relationships between an author’s historical and imaginative realities.
