Impact Coffee - An 8th Year Update
Mar 01, 2022 12:00 PM
DRC Sponsor: Kim Bonnet Sean Brown, owner of Impact Coffee, will come and speak about their current space in the old JC Penny building and some of the new events and ideas that have spawned since moving into a bigger space. Owners Jeff and Anja Brown had been in the custom framing business for over 30 years when during the summer of 2014, Jeff decided it was time for a career change. Along with his oldest son, Sean, the remodel of the frame shop began and Impact Coffee was born. The first year and a half the frame shop and Impact coffee shared a space, creating a unique and cozy environment. When the coffee shop began to out grow the shared space, the frame shop was relocated down the street and the first expansion began. Needing space for his roasters, Jeff's two stall garage quickly became a full blown roastery. Using his background and passion as an avid home brewer, Jeff quickly took to learning the ropes of roasting and began fine tuning his craft as a roaster. Now, just over 8 years old, Impact Coffee offers custom roasting, a full espresso bar, seasonal handcrafted coffee drinks, nitro cold brew and a large selection of high quality loose leaf teas. --- **Please complete your meal sign-up prior to the meeting, preferably not later than close of business Monday. Lutheran Civic Engagement in U.S. History
Mar 22, 2022 12:00 PM
DRC Sponsor: Kim Bonnet Michael Wilker is the new senior pastor of First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Most recently he served as the senior pastor of Lutheran Church of the Reformation on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, and previously as the executive director of the Lutheran Volunteer Corps, a national ministry for young adults. He has served bilingual (Spanish/English) congregations in suburban New York and rural California. He was raised on a hog farm near Owatonna, MN. Pastor Mike will share stories and reflections of Lutheran civic engagement in U.S. history and across the nation. Lutherans care about government because it is a gift from God intended for the safety and flourishing of human life. Yet too often and in too many ways, this gift has been abused. The Lutheran church teaches that all residents of the United States have a responsibility to make government function well—not to abandon our democracy but to engage it in a spirit of robust civic duty. For Lutherans, this responsibility is lived out as a calling from God, expressed in the discipleship described in our baptismal promises. --- **Please complete your meal sign-up prior to the meeting, preferably not later than close of business Monday. Supporting Kids in Our Community: Viking Pride Community Wide and Kids Lunch Club
Apr 14, 2022 5:30 PM
West Side Early Childhood, John Cline, and Carrie Lee (Preschool through 4 th grade) are PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) Schools that work hard to teach, model, and promote the social emotional skills that students need to be successful and school and throughout life. A main focus on their PBIS program is Viking Pride – the idea that no matter where we are or what we are doing we are respectful, responsible, and safe. The Decorah Community School District is working on expanding Viking Pride beyond the walls of the school district and out into the community. This presentation will focus on three main ways that businesses and community members can support our students (and therefore teachers, families, and community) in learning positive social emotional skills and “rocking their Viking Pride” throughout our community. Note: Shanna will present updates on the program, so if you attended the noon presentation there will be something new for you! Shanna Putnam Dibble is the Elementary Learner Advocate for the Decorah Community School District, the Kids Lunch Club Coordinator, and teaches classes across Iowa for teachers, childcare providers and parents. Shanna is active in the community, serving as the President of the FEC (Family, Educator, and Community Organization), a member of the Decorah Public Library Board of Trustees and the Freeport Park Committee, and volunteers with many local organizations. Shanna lives in Decorah with her husband Andrew and their two children. |

Dacia will share her story at the After-Hours Meeting this week at Pulpit Rock Brewing Company (back room). She will be joined by Whitney Joachim, an American Red Cross staff partner who will share how the American Red Cross makes blood donations, like those that helped Dacia.
