The Decorah Community Food Pantry

DRC After-Hours Sponsor: Samantha Spilde

The Decorah Community Food Pantry shares food with local Iowans facing food insecurity. It is open every weekday for clients to shop for food and other essentials. It started as a project of First Lutheran Church but has been established as an independent organization since 2017. Every year it serves over 4,000 clients and distributes around 200,000 pounds of food to people in need.

Steve Zittergruen, Vice President of the Decorah Community Food Pantry, will provide an update on recent developments in the organization. He has served on its board and as a volunteer since 2017. He also serves the community as a member of the Decorah City Council, a member of Decorah Jobs, and on the Board of Directors of Kinderhaus - a local early childhood education center. His primary vocation is as a homemaker for his two children and his wife. Some of his other interests are time spent outside, golf, playing guitar, and cooking.
