Mark Muggli
Decorah Historic Preservation Commission

DRC Sponsor: Lorraine Borowski

Decorah Historic Preservation Commission (DHPC) Chairman and Luther College Professor Emeritus of English Mark Muggli will speak to our members about the mission and function of the DHPC, and will highlight several recent noteworthy historic preservation initiatives within the Decorah community.

The DHPC’s primary purpose is to promote the educational, cultural, economic and general welfare of the public through the recognition, enhancement and perpetuation of sites and districts of historical and cultural significance. Established in 2007, the Commission is a state-of-Iowa approved Certified Local Government agency.

Dr. Muggli retired from Luther College in 2013 after 35 years of service. During that time, he taught English and interdisciplinary courses on a wide range of topics. He has a lifelong interest in architecture and historic preservation, stimulated by restoring a 19th-century Decorah home and by living and teaching abroad.
