Ronda Hansen
Winneshiek County Dispatch Telecommunication Supervisor

DRC Sponsor: Lorraine Borowski

When you dial 911 in an emergency, the voice of the dispatcher is the first you hear. Emergency dispatchers are tasked with life-saving duties like coaching people through medical emergencies and keeping them calm. They provide timely and critical direction to local police, fire and ambulance crews.

In Winneshiek County, dispatch falls under the umbrella of Emergency Management. Over 3,000 calls per year to 911 and nearly 30,000 total annual calls for assistance have been managed by the dispatcher in recent years. All calls are treated with diligence and care given the fact each one potentially represents a particular state of emergency.

Ronda Hansen serves as the Dispatch Telecommuncations Supervisor for Winneshiek County Emergency Management. She will be offering insights into the never-dull world of emergency dispatch.
