Kirk Larsen
Marine Biology in Roatan, Honduras

DRC Sponsor: Jon Lund

Professor Kirk Larsen and accompanying Luther students will join us to share insights and pictures from their adventures in Roatan, Honduras during their January Term (J-Term) study abroad in 2026. The course in marine biology was an introduction to the coral reef and other marine environments of the Caribbean. They participated in daily scuba dives and lectures and learned about the identification, ecology, behavior, and conservation of marine organisms and environments. Students also developed and completed research projects.

Kirk Larsen, professor of biology, began teaching at Luther in 1993. Kirk holds a Ph.D. in entomology from Ohio State University, an M.S. in entomology from Michigan State University, and a B.S. in biology from Calvin College. He has special interests in prairie ecology and insect behavior. When not scuba diving in Roatan, Kirk enjoys gardening, playing trombone, hiking, cross-country skiing, swimming and snorkeling, fly fishing, burning prairies, and eating ice cream.
